About me

The first publication about creative work of the artist appeared in the newspaper "Leningradskaya Pravda", 27 of January 1977 in the article named "Renascence". This article told us about the revival by Oleg Krylov of the genre of the portrait miniature on porcelain which was lost in the middle of the 19th century.

Oieg Krylov created more than 50 unique miniatures on porcelain working for different museums of Russia and he have got high references of these museums and of its visitors.

Newspapers, magazines and TV programs told us about the unique creative achievements of the artist in this genre of art. The highest appreciation of his creative work was given in the reference of the State Hermitage Museum signed by Boris Piotrovsky.

In the book "The Russian enamel miniature" dedicated to the works of Russian artists of the 18-19th centuries Oleg Krylov has been called the first among the successors of this genre of art. But in fact the achievements of the artist are considerably higher because he creates the author's realistic compositions on the layers which differ by its dimensions from the miniature. The particular success of the artist in this very difficult art technique connected with multiple bakings which change the paints colour is the brilliant sensible reproduction of the flesh colours.

There are no artists in Russia or abroad who could accomplish the most difficult task of the author's realistic painting on porcelain layers.

The works of Oleg Krylov have got high appreciation of the foreign experts in the Auction Catalogue "ROBERT DEVEAU GALLERIES" .His works have been acquired for the private collections of Italy, USA and Canada.

Every professional who reaches the high skill in his field creates bis own skill level which he can't lower whatever he makes. The real artist can't lower bis skill quality. The creative work of Oleg Krylov confirms this thesis. He also works in the technique of water-colours and oil painting.

The artist made about 30 water-colour miniatures and several canvas for different museum expositions, hi all he made about 100 portraits on porcelain, in water-colours and in oil painting. Every work was approved by two Experts Soviets: the Museum and the Professional Artists Soviet. His series of miniature portraits "The Ulianov's Family" made specially for the Central Lenin Museum in Moscow, were approved by the high level Communist Party Commissions. This gave rise to the rare professional skills of the artist and helped him to correspond to the most partial demands of different Soviets and Commissions.

Your portrait made in the technique of oil-painting will also correspond to the most strict requirements!!!

New works of the artist which are made in accordance with new demands of our epoch are also of high skill level. These works made in oil and in mixed technique are for the modern interieur. Being of high skill level, they are also rarities as they have got the mark of the creative personality of the artist who has got the social recognition for his remarkable creative successes. Order a portrait! Order painting for your interieur!

It is written on the basis of facts, museums references and publications about the creative work of the author.

Highest Achievement of O. Krylov

One of both most complicated and attractive tasks in painting is the depiction of nude figures. Polychromy and harmony of colors of a real object result from the fact that as form changes, the color and lightness change according to specific laws.

Light patches assume a warm corporal tint. Then follow cold undertones merging into a warm brown shade and then into some reflections.

All these colors and lightnesses should be harmonized and interbalanced, as they change simultaneously. This requires a subtle perception and understanding along with the ability to use various painting skills, which are acquired over years of experience and knowledge of various secrets. Not to mention anatomy and expressiveness of movements, body depiction is one of the most sophisticated tasks in painting.

Complexity is further added to by the fact that in real life our eye constantly perceives and evaluates esthetically these subtle color moves.

For this reason, mistaken depiction of real changes may provoke negative reaction in the onlooker. Color may be exaggerated in a still-life with pears or bottles but not in the portrayal of a naked female body.

For example, woman's breasts or other body elements should have the corporal tone from the viewpoint of both lightness and harmony of color moves following their shape.

The master is unique, because the most complicated task of corporal tones is perfectly performed by him in porcelain painting, watercolor and oil on canvas.

The novelty is in the solution of supercomplex problems of painting rather than various commercial non-professional "dyeings" or "infantile colorings".

The peculiarities of painting on porcelain

The painting on porcelain is realized by ceramic paints which are fixed by baking in muffle kiln under the temperature 750° - 850° C.

The porcelain layer needs to be baked 10-12 times to create portrait and figure painting. The process of heating and cooling the kiln takes 10 hours, so only baking in the kiln takes about 120 hours.

Paints are put by the smallest strokes and every layer is scrupulously worked through again and again for every 10-12 bakings. It gradually intensifies light and colours. Therefore, increasing of layer dimensions needs considerably more effort.

Paints change their colours in the fire and especially colouring of flesh colours. Thus, the sensible picture of human body is the most complicated task of the porcelain painting.

The mistake fixed by baking is practically impossible to be corrected. Talking about colouring you can't see anything while you are creating and when it has baked and seen you can realize that nothing can be changed.

It is said, 'You can't see while creating and you are not allowed to make a mistake'.

Because of these problems the artists of the last centuries simplified there tasks and reproduced compositions of other authors in the miniature or on the porcelain layers of big dimensions.

So, the author's figure painting on porcelain layers which basically differs in dimensions from miniature is the further step in the development of this kind of art. And for the first time it has been realized by the artist from St Petersburg Oleg Krylov.

It is expressed in the referents of the State Hermitage Museum, signed by Academician B.B. Piotrovsky.
